Comme des Garçons is a Japanese fashion label founded and led by Rei Kawakubo in Tokyo and Place Vendôme in Paris , where they showcase their main collections during Paris Fashion Week and Paris Men's Fashion Week. Its flagship store in Japan is in Aoyama . The company also has concept outlets for the Trading Museum Comme des Garçons and 10 Corso Como Comme des Garçons in Tokyo, and outlets in Kyoto , Osaka and Fukuoka . Outside of Japan, the company has outlets on the Rue du Faubourg St-Honoré , Paris; West 22nd Street, New York City ; as well as in Hong Kong , Beijing , Bangkok , Seoul , Singapore , Melbourne and Manila .

Since 2004, Comme des Garçons has developed a department store concept to sell products from its own brand, products from other brands, such as Shirts and Play , as well as products from other designers. Its first department store, called Dover Street Market , was in London . In 2010, the company opened the IT Beijing Market Comme des Garçons, and then in Ginza, Tokyo in 2012, in New York City in 2013, as well as in Berlin and Los Angeles .

This label was started in Tokyo by Rei Kawakubo in 1969 and was founded as a company under the name Comme des Garçons Co. Ltd. in 1973. The company name is written in Japanese as ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ( Komu de Gyaruson ), which means "like a man" in French.  The brand name is inspired by Francoise Hardy's 1962 song Tous les garçons et les filles , especially in the lyrics of Comme les garçons et les filles de mon âge . This brand also had great success in Japan in the 1970s and in 1978 began producing men's clothing. In 1981, the Comme des Garçons held its first exhibition in Paris. Kawakubo's use of copious blacks, distressed fabrics, and unfinished stitching was viewed negatively by French critics.  During the 1980s, Comme des Garçons clothing was often associated with 'stressed' and 'punk' styles. Comme des Garçons also continued to produce clothes with unique styles during the 1990s, although they were not liked by experts, but in 2004, the company developed the Homme des Garçons Deux and Comme des Garçons Shirt., made by hand. This is because the Comme des Garçons really values ??the quality of handmade clothing, which, although it costs more, is more durable. Play, the Comme des Garçons luxury product line, is mainly produced in Japan, Spain and Turkey, with Play's factory in France still implementing a number of procedures by hand, unlike at factories located in Japan, Spain and Turkey. This is because factories in France also produce handcrafted products, such as the Tricot Comme des Garçons, Comme des Garçons Homme Plus Evergreen, and Junya Watanabe Comme Des Garçons . It is believed that all fabrics produced in Japan, however, a number of products sold in China and Australia are hand-finished in France for quality checking (as can be seen from the hand-sewn heart emblem). In an article for Business of Fashion in April 2017, Tim Blanks reported that CDG and affiliates' revenues had "exceeded $ 280 million a year".
